(OOC) CK’s Blog Banter #14: I Peer Into My Crystal Pod…

Welcome to the fourteenth installment of the EVE Blog Banter, the monthly EVE Online blogging extravaganza created by CrazyKinux. The EVE Blog Banter involves an enthusiastic group of gaming bloggers, a common topic within the realm of EVE Online, and a week to post articles pertaining to the said topic. The resulting articles can either be short or quite extensive, either funny or dead serious, but are always a great fun to read! Any questions about the EVE Blog Banter should be directed to crazykinux@gmail.com. Check out other EVE Blog Banter articles at the bottom of this post!

The first banter of 2010 comes to us from the EVE Blog Father, CrazyKinux himself, who asks the following: As we begin another year in New Eden, ask yourselves “What Now?” What will I attempt next? What haven’t I done so far in EVE? Was it out fear, funds, or knowledge? Have I always wanted to start my own corporation, but have never dared doing so? Is there a fledging mercenary waiting to come out of its shell? Or maybe an Industrialist? What steps and objectives will I set myself to accomplish in order to reach my ultimate goal for this year? EVE is what you make of it. So, what is it going to be for you?

Ah… it’s good to be back doing CK’s blog banters! ūüėÄ

Focus starts in a little over a day from now, and I’m not sure if these training times take into account the change in attributes when you have a learning skill in your plan.

Not a full year, but this gets me to the point where I start taking a good hard look at Caldari and Gallente. That would involved cruiser and battleship skills, but also blasters and railguns (hybrids), missiles, drones and specializations for each. As you can see I already have some skills in the drone and missile¬†category, and I’m anxious to see how well they hold out in a dedicated drone or missile boat. Mind you, this is a quick rundown and I’m not married to it. If you have suggestions I’d certainly love to hear them.

So that takes care of skills.

What about my carebearing? Yes I’m still a dirty mission-runner and I doubt that I’ll ever say goodbye to the agents that have treated me so well. The damsel will always need saving (WTF is up with her…) and the pirates is always hate my cloned guts. You’d think being part of such a¬†prestigious¬†PvP alliance like the Ushra’Khan, I’d be shunned, but in fact my tireless mission-running in empire creates a much-needed funding stream for all our efforts down in null (you think things like this come cheap? We’re obviously taking minimal loses and causing maximum carnage, but it still costs isk to do what we do.) I do plan on finally heading down to nullsec and making my¬†presence¬†really felt (ego ego ego…) and the 3 billion isk sale of Howlynn certainly helps give me a little burnable income. I no longer have the excuse of lacking in skills, and experience only comes from the doing.

I intend to become and expert (or at least a little seasoned) in the ways of scanning, WHing, R&D, small gang, large fleet and everything else PvPers do on the side and need to know that doesn’t involve mining. Not that I don’t have respect for miners, a noble profession it is.

There’s the next alliance tournament to consider. I’ve been asked to be on the team next time and I’m really looking forward to the¬†opportunity. I think the idea of carving my name into the Ushra’Khan’s gloried histories in such a brilliant fashion is a concept that has me a little hyped, and a little humbled. I’ll surely give it my all. We always come really close, and with my help maybe this’ll be the year we take the gold!

I have my little brother (and sadly, by proxy, his friends and a growing number of young pilots he’s recruiting from his high school) to look out for now that he’s joined the ranks of us star-faring deities. They’ll need plenty of advice, a little isk here and there (gifts to my brother, loans with high interest to his friends). They want to join the U’K. I know they’ll make me proud.

There’s the summer expansion to look forward to. Incarna and New Eden (if Facebook can help me sell a toon, I can’t wait to see what I can do with NE). I’m actually looking forward to changing the look of my character to better suit the character I’ve given life through my writings. There’s also the wonderful work Roc Wieler and PJSam are doing with Capsuleer, and the question of whether or not I’ll be getting an iPhone, or praying that they find the energy and verve needed to port it to a proper Blackberry.

Then there’s this blog. It’s still just a framework and I intend to make it look and function as well as I can. I’ll be getting back to my in-character writing soon, though I’m not sure where exactly to take the story just yet. I have my original 10-part story Last Son of Prano all edited and ready to lay out nicely into a .pdf, though I really wish I had the time and help required to get accompanying screenshots. Once that’s done and up for download I’ll continue the story. Who knows… maybe this year I’ll make CK’s Blog Pack.

…What? I can dream!

Speaking of dreams, I’m dreaming of getting to Fanfest this year. I’ve more or less had to cancel my PAX East plans this March. If I can, I will, and I’m working hard on the can. Until such things come to pass, there’s always Toronto EVE meets, which (from the looks of a new facebook group) looks to be perhaps becoming more¬†regular¬†than two or three times a year.

What is my ultimate goal? I’m not sure I really have just one. I think all of the things I’ve just outlined paint a tapestry of what place I want EVE to play in my life. A challenge to many of my faculties. A connection to friends and community. A source of experiences I’ll cherish for a lifetime. Isn’t that what we all want?

Fly safe. Fly hard. Just fly.
